As we expand our footprint into Europe, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager (Independent Contractor role) to lead our new office in Berlin, Germany. This role is crucial for the successful establishment and growth of our operations in Germany, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Office Management: Oversee smooth operations, equipment, and facilities maintenance. Implement office policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Startup Operations: Lead the establishment of the Berlin office, including logistics, procurement, and setup. Develop and execute project plans to ensure timely office launch. Coordinate with various departments to align startup activities.
  • Retail Management: Supervise retail operations including staffing, inventory management, and customer service. Develop sales strategies to meet and exceed sales targets. Ensure high standards of store presentation and product merchandising.
  • Real Estate & Leases: Identify suitable office and retail locations. Negotiate lease terms and manage lease agreements. Oversee property management and maintenance activities.
  • Compliance & Regulations: Stay updated on local, state, and federal regulations regarding the cannabis industry. Ensure all operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Consult with regulatory bodies and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  • Financial Oversight: Prepare and manage budgets for the Berlin office. Monitor financial performance and implement cost-control measures. Generate financial reports and provide insights to senior management.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team. Foster a positive and productive work environment. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Vendor & Supplier Management: Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers. Negotiate contracts and ensure timely delivery of goods and services. Monitor supplier performance and address any issues promptly.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of business expansion plans. Identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Collaborate with senior management to set strategic goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably in the retail or cannabis industry.
  • Startup Experience: Proven experience in setting up and managing new office operations. Ability to manage the unique challenges of a startup environment.
  • Retail Management: Strong background in retail management, including knowledge of sales strategies and customer service best practices. Experience in managing multiple retail locations is a plus.
  • Real Estate Knowledge: Familiarity with real estate market trends, lease negotiations, and property management. Understanding of legal aspects related to real estate transactions.
  • Compliance: In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to the cannabis industry in Germany. Experience in preparing and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Leadership: Excellent leadership and team management skills. Ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve business goals.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and German. Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically and solve complex problems. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel and adapt to changing business needs. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
